Zeb and I recently celebrated our one year anniversary. (Note the fabulous picture taken by fellow Minneapolite, Kristin.)

Married

My good friend Kayla and her fiance Adam gave us a gift card to Red Stag Supper Club to celebrate this occasion. What nice friends we have!

Red Stag Supper Club

Tuesday is Date Night at Red Stag and Zeb had just happened to finish the first half of the Bar exam on a Tuesday. (Wahoo!) So, it was prime time to hit up the “Stag” and celebrate! If you know nothing about Red Stag Date Night let me get you up to speed. Two entrees, two desserts, one bottle of wine. All for the affordable price of $32. If you are a foodie, Red Stag is the perfect place for you. Their food is innovative and the chef is fabulous. Every Tuesday night they offer two options for the Date Night. One option is vegetarian and one is for the carnivores among us. Zeb and I have been to their Date Night on several occasions and we have yet to be disappointed. What makes me love Red Stag even more is that they really emphasize local and organic agriculture, as well as conserving resources and composting the restaurants waste. How can you go wrong with that?

Laughing Bird Shrimp

That night the food continued to impress. Since we were in celebration mode, we decided to order an appetizer along with the normal Date Night fare. After much thought and deliberation, we decided to order the Laughing Bird Shrimp. ($10) The shrimp was coated in corn meal and served with olives and pickled peppers with a citrus flavoring. Both Zeb and I were hesitant to order this because of the corn meal coating on the shrimp. We could not have been more wrong. The corn meal gave it a crispness without the fatty batter. The olives and pickled peppers gave a Mediterranean edge to the shrimp that was unique and delicious.

Red Stag Date Night

The Date Night options were a linguine with braised kale or grilled flank steak with peppers. After a recommendation from our waitress, we both ordered the steak. I was very impressed with out waitress Natalie. As we were discussing the options, I let her know that I was a wimp when it came to green peppers. She was glad to help out and had the chef do a different pairing with my steak. Instead of the peppers, my steak came with broccoli. It was absolutely amazing. The steak was cooked to perfection and the pairing of broccoli with the steak was awesome. Since it is summer, Zeb and I chose a chilled bottle of white wine to go with our meal.

Chilled White Wine and Sparkling Water

But, the best part of the meal was yet to come. The dessert tonight was a peach upside-down cake. The cake was divine. It had a sugary crispness on the top with a light sauce and whipped cream on the side. The flavors paired well and melted in your mouth so perfectly. My only complaint was the portion was just a little too small. That is the glutton in me speaking. In actuality, the proportions were just the right amount. I left feeling satisfied, not gorged — exactly how one should feel.

Peach Upside-down Cake

If you haven’t been to the Red Stag Date Night, I highly suggest you make your way there. We left, after a minor splurge, with a tab of $46 before tip. For the quality of food this is an amazing deal for two. Plus, that includes both dessert and alcohol, jackpot!

Atmosphere
I love the Red Stag vibe, the decor has a cozy Up North feel with a vintage flair.

Service
Like most places, not all servers are amazing here, but our server tonight was superb.

Presentation
You can tell food is their specialty. The dishes are unique and the plating is beautiful.

Taste
The food was very good.

Value for Dollars
For a Date Night, along with the quality of food, I felt our bill was very reasonable.
