Fridays have always been one of my favorite days of the week. When it is Friday you know that there are two days around the corner that are solely yours. I only work half days on Fridays and last week the clock striking 12 was more anticipated than usual. I love my job, but this past week was a stressful one. So, when I was done for the day I had a rush of relief…it was like the Saved by the Bell theme song was playing in my head. “It’s alright cause I’m Saved by the Bell.”
When I got off of work, my sister called me and wanted to do lunch. Of course I accepted, why not celebrate this wonderful afternoon off? We decided to head to the Wilde Roast Cafe on St. Anthony Main. It was definitely the right decision.
The Wilde Roast is quaint and wonderful. The Literature major in me lit up when I walked into the restaurant and saw Oscar Wilde staring down at me — he is brilliant. There is sidewalk seating on a beautiful day, cozy couches and chairs in front of a fireplace, or booth and table seating if that is what you desire. The decor is done in reds and darker woods, in some ways I am reminded of the Victorian era in which Oscar Wilde wrote.
Wilde Roast serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have specialty coffee drinks, several kinds of homemade gelato, and a full bar. Maddie and I were there only for lunch. After looking at the menu for awhile, we decided on the Constance Chicken Sandwich for $10.99. Since we were sharing it was necessary to upgrade to the fries versus the potato chip side, an extra dollar. We placed our order at the counter and brought our menu to the seat of our choice. It was a little overcast, so we decided to sit by the window and look out at the river. The beautiful view is another thing that Wilde Roast has to offer.
Our sandwich arrived promptly and the service was wonderful. They did not have one of the condiments we had requested. So, they came over before our sandwich came in order to make sure they were able to accommodate us as best they could. If you ask me, that is fabulous service. The sandwich was delicious. The Constance Chicken sandwich is a perfectly grilled chicken topped with melted mozzarella, sauteed apples, grilled onions. All of this was on a toasted baguette with a spicy mayo spread. The ratio of apple to chicken was perfect. Sometimes these things can be overdone, but this sandwich had just the right amount of each component. Sweet and spicy with that great grilled flavor. The fries came with parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. They were very tasty as well. The portion was the perfect amount for Maddie and I to share over lunch. We both left full and the bill was great too, our total bill before tip was just over $13!
Atmosphere
They offer a variety of seating for whatever mood you are in and the decor is cozy.Service
I was very pleased that rather than just bringing our food and saying they didn’t offer the condiment we wanted, they made a special trip over to our table to make sure they had something that we would like instead.Presentation
The colors in the sandwich were beautiful, but it just came in a basket with fries. The basket made it feel a touch more like diner food, which felt a little odd given the higher aesthetic of the restaurant as a whole.
Taste
I found our sandwich to be delicious. The flavors blended well.Value for Dollars
I felt that the sandwich was a decent price for the size and quality.
But don’t take my word for it:
