glam doll donuts

This past weekend Zeb and I left town for a little family gathering in South Dakota. Before our trip I stopped by Glam Doll Donuts for a breakfast treat. It’s not a real road trip without a donut or two, right? Walking into the shop I was immediately transported back in time. The decor is very retro with portraits of glamorous gals hanging on the wall. The staff is playing their part too in vintage aprons and fifties inspired hair.

I walked to the counter and was quickly greeted by one of the staff. I was completely overwhelmed by the array of donuts that all looked incredibly delicious. She was able to quickly offer a list of the most popular donuts and a list of her favorites. Since I’m no good with decisiveness in times like these I told her to grab a half dozen of the must-tries ($13.50.) I paid and left vowing I would be back for a coffee and a donut — I’ve gotta sit on that beautiful couch.

Later, when we got into the car we all sampled a bit of each donut. We tried several, but were all in agreement that the Showgirl, maple icing and bacon, was the best. The bacon on top was almost a show-stopper for me, but once I took a bite I was in heaven. It is a perfect balance of salty and sweet. Oh, and if you love chocolate you have to try the Calendar girl, salted caramel and chocolate, another crowd favorite.
