Last week Zeb and I went away for a long weekend. What was suppose to be a nice Autumn getaway to the beautiful Black Hills soon became an adventure in the heart of the Winter Storm Atlas. It snowed 25 inches in 24 hours and we were without electricity from Thursday night until we left for a heated hotel late Saturday afternoon. Needless to say our vacation was memorable but tiring. We arrived home laaate Sunday night needing a vacation from our vacation.

On Monday evening the last thing we wanted to do was cook ourselves dinner. We quickly decided to hit up a happy hour and then head home to RELAX. Since we’ve both been to Tiger Sushi on several occasions but never to their happy hour, we decided to brave the traffic of Uptown and make our way there. Tiger Sushi’s happy hour runs from 4-6 p.m., so it’s fairly convenient if you live or work in the area.

We were quickly waited on as soon as we walked through the door and our waitress gave us our choice of patio or inside seating. Feeling the need to soak up every last bit of this gorgeous Fall weather, we quickly chose to sit outside. We pleased to discover that the happy hour menus at Tiger Sushi are quite extensive. They do a great job of offering you a variety of items for discounted prices.

We each ordered a beer and split a couple of the appetizers (Tiger Ceviche and Shrimp Tempura) and specialty maki. If you’ve ever been to Tiger Sushi, you know that they have a killer calamari appetizer. I was saddened to see it wasn’t on the happy hour menu. But, for me, what makes that appetizer so unbelievable delicious is the red-orange sweet and spicy dipping sauce they serve it with. If you ask, your waitress will bring you a side of that. The unique sauces are what make Tiger Sushi one of my favorite sushi places in the metro — they are pretty amazing.

Our food came quickly and we instantly devoured it. It was delicious and worth every penny — which wasn’t many pennies as you can see from their happy hour menu pricing! Zeb and I will drive the extra distance from NE for the happy hour for two reasons:

1. The staff is very friendly and they don’t make you feel guilty for ordering solely from the happy hour menu.

2. Even though we ordered from the happy hour menu our waitress brought our dishes out like a meal — apps first, then sushi rolls. She really spaced things out as we would eat them versus just bringing them all to our table at once. We were able to eat on the cheap, but eat as if we ordered from the regular menu.

We slowly finished our meal and sipped our beers, reveling in temperatures that were 40 degrees warmer than what we’d been experiencing the previous day. We paid our bill and left know that we’d be back again soon.

But don’t take my word for it…
